Every number here is the TCGplayer market price, which we record once a day for every card in the guides. A mover's “before” and “after” are two real dated prices — 2026-08-19 and 2026-08-31 (7 days apart). We never model, estimate, or interpolate a price.
Only cards trading at $5 or more on both dates are eligible: a penny card going from $0.10 to $0.25 is a 150% “gain” that means nothing. A move also has to be at least 3% to make the list, and each side is capped at 25 cards, chosen from the 6,918 cards that had an honest price on both dates.
Prices that did not change simply aren't re-recorded, so a card with no new entry held steady — we carry its last known price forward. What we will not do is guess across a gap in the record: if a card has no price within a week of either date, it sits out rather than pretending it moved 0%.
One caution worth stating plainly: thinly traded vintage cards can swing hard when a single sale resets TCGplayer's market price. A big percentage on a card that trades a few times a month is real data, not a trend — the card's own price history page is where you can see which it is.
